The first production of my play, "An Army of One," took place in November of 2005 at The University of Kansas. That production was co-produced by English Alternative Theater and The KU University Theater.
The production was a participating entry in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. After eight initial performances in November 2005, the show was selected to travel the regional festival for Region V of the KCACTF.
A benefit performance was held on January 20th, 2006 where the show was restaged to fit on a larger proscenium style stage. Then the lights, set, crew, actors, director, producers, and a variety of KU faculty members piled into a bus and took the show on the road to Fargo, ND where the regional festival was held.
At the festival the show was performed twice to good audiences who were extremely receptive to the show. The production recieved a great deal of praise from people attending the festival in addition to positive critical response from official respondants. The director, Paul Hough, was presented an award for achievement in directing from the regional festival staff for his work on the play.
Unfortunately, the play was not selected for futher consideration by the National Selection Committee. This means that the script and production of the play were not selected to travel to the National Festival in Washington D.C.
The last performance of "An Army of One" took place on Friday, January 27th, 2006.
Thanks to all those great supporters who hoped the production would continue on to D.C. The production of this play touched many peoples lives. Hopefully it will continue to do so in additional productions. We had an amazing run! We made a difference.
