The production of "An Army of One" received a great deal of local recognition due to its subject matter and the efforts of both The University Theatre and EAT working overtime to "get the word out." Thanks to their tireless efforts the show performed to a sold out house every night.

The audience response to "An Army of One" was very positive. People who saw the show had many wonderful things to say about the production qaulity. Audiences connected with "An Army of One" because of its contemporary subject matter, and its message of hope in the face of tragedy. The show was described by audience members as "Powerful, profound, and sometimes overwhelming."

The Talk-back Session...

There was a Talkback immediately following the November 20, performance of An Army of One.

Panelists at the talkback included:

  • Kevin Lucey, father of U.S. Marine reservist Jeffrey Lucey, who suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after serving in Iraq, and who ultimately committed suicide in June 2005 as a result of his experience during the War.
  • Allan Hanson, professor of Anthropology at KU, a founding member of the Lawrence Coalition for Peace and Justice.
  • Zacory Boatright, playwright of An Army of One.

Paul Lim, professor of play writing in the English Department, introduced the panelists, and Chuck Berg, chair of the Department of Theatre & Film, moderated the discussion.
